What are Custom Actions?
Custom Actions are basically actions you can set up uniquely for your own inbox. These are API calls or links that help you manage your customers' accounts right from the inbox. These Custom Actions communicate with an external system, and much like Postman in functionality, you can create different API calls with them.
You can set up your Custom Actions in your Workspace under Custom Actions here.
How to Set Up Custom Actions?
First, you must fill out the General settings for each custom action. Here, you have:
- Enter the name of the Custom Action.
- Set up if you want a confirmation after clicking on the button of the Custom Action: here, we will ask if you are sure whether you want to carry out that particular action.
- Choose a button style: Depending on your setup, you may have to add a name to the button as well.
- Select the icon for the button.
- Select the button color for the Custom Action.
Next, you have to set up the Audience. Much like the filters in the Customers and Marketing Module, you can use specific filters to set up the audience for which you want to display the Custom Action option.
You will only see the button of the Custom Action for the audience you set it up for.
- You can also set up a Custom filter, if you have any, for an easier and quicker solution.
And lastly, you have to set up the specific Action you want to be carried out.
The button can act in 2 ways:
- As a Request: Once you click on it, a request will be sent to the external system, and the action will be carried out.
- As a Link: Once you click on it, you will be directed to the specific link you provide there.
Link
If you want to set up a link for the Custom Action, you have to provide the specific link you want to be directed to.
Then, you must add the name/value pairs to the custom action.
- Enter the name of the parameter
- Choose a parameter value.
The parameter value for the link Custom Action can be 2 different types:
- Custom Parameter: This is a unique parameter. If you want this to be filled out, you have to manually add it.
- Fix parameter: This is coming from your customers' data and is filled out automatically.
Request
A Request for your Custom Action is an HTTP call to an external system. If you want to set that up, first you have to choose the type:
- GET,
- PUT,
- DELETE,
- POST,
and enter the specific link you want.
Then, you must add the name/value pairs to the custom action.
- Enter the name of the parameter
- Choose a parameter value.
The parameter value for the link Custom Action can be 3 different types:
- Custom Parameter: This is a unique parameter. If you want this to be filled out, you have to manually add it.
- Fix parameter: This comes from your customers' data and is filled out automatically.
- Ask for value: Here, we will ask you to enter the specific value you want to add to the Custom Action once you click on the button.
Finally, you have to set up the place where you want your parameter to be put:
- Query: The parameter will be at the end of your URL.
- Header: The parameter will be in the HTTP header.
- Body: The parameter will be in the body of the request.
Once you are ready with the setup, click on Save. The Custom Action will be available for you in the Inbox, on the right, under your customers' information.
